FEDERATION PICNIC AT MAFFRA - Sunday, 28th October, 2012
Gippsland Vehicle Collection again hosted this annual event for The Federation of Veteran, Vintage and Classic Vehicle Clubs.

The weather was perfect for being outside with the table and chairs this year and soon the spaceous grounds were a hive of activity. Entrants came from far and wide with an amazing range of vehicles – cars, trucks, motorbikes, a tanker, a horse drawn carriage and a couple of tractors, including an unusual 1915 ‘The Bull’ tractor. Other exhibits were a ‘teardrop’ picnic caravan, old tools, jacks, chainsaws etc.

Inside the Museum, heritage displays and practical craft and woodcraft demonstrations offered something for everyone. The Maffra Historical Society gave a ‘Powerpoint’ presentation of early photographs in their latest book release – ‘Maffra Milk Trucks and Tankers’. Being a ‘picnic’, the Teddy Bears were out in force, enjoying the sunshine.

The horse and carriage gave many the opportunity to go for a ride around Maffra. The kids loved it! Inside the Museum, featured the ‘Holden’ display, with a couple of early entries for the upcoming ‘Chrysler Group’ display. The canteen, retail desk and outside BBQ kept our volunteers very busy.

Prizes were presented to entrants in the following classes: Veteran – 1915 “The Bull’ tractor – Norm Johnson, Vintage – 1925 Oldsmobile tourer – Noel Hedington, Pre War Classic – 1932 MG ‘Mille Miglia’ – George and Marguerite Morgan, Post War Classic – 1955 Jaguar ‘XK140’ two door fixed Head coupe – Lloyd Reynolds, Commercial - 1928 Dodge Brothers tray truck – Max Devlin, and Motorcycle - 1966 Honda twin ‘Street Scrambler’ - Andrew Bain.

Thanks to all attendees and all our enthusiastic volunteers, who helped to make this a great day. The ‘Picnic’ next year will be on Sunday, 13th October, and will coincide with the ‘Melbourne to Maffra’ rally which will be held on the same weekend.
